The thought of avoiding the modern day approach of frantic pace and uncomfortably crowded travel sounded resplendent. Possibly what struck me as most outstanding was the opportunity to step off the train at various intervals for what was deemed a mini mini break. Meaning I would be able to experience more culture, history, natural beauty and culinary delights in short bursts than I would if I were flying.

Of all of the destinations, and itineraries discussed, it was while perusing the tips for Italy that I decided upon my idyllic trip. The seed had been planted, and I let it root over the next couple of days. Then I woke up one morning and committed to my own journey. This will be a first for me, and to say I am looking forward is a massive understatement. My expectations are high, and from what I understand, they should be.

Now, if you decide to engage in a trip to see some of the world’s most beautiful natural sights, you need not fear of going hungry. The variety will not be limited to rice and beans, and you should not come back five pounds lighter.

Now, back to the kitchen. When a couple selects their house they might be focused on things like appliances, and the overall appearance. This is well within the norm, as the pace of life is one that allows for such concentration. They might entertain or embrace cooking, but all of it is more on par with being optional and infrequent as opposed to what it becomes with babies, and such. As a family expands, structure is required, as is space. This means that the need for optimum storage space, counter space, and accessibility to all that is housed in that kitchen becomes vital.

Therefore, it would be most prudent for couples with the intention of growing their family to think it forward. It would be well advised for them to opt for a house with a larger kitchen, as opposed to one the size of a closet. Otherwise, they should be prepared for a conversion, remodel, or at the very least varied improvements on their horizon.

Aside from the fact that I become a bit of a germaphobe in kitchens regularly used by others, and insufficiently cleaned by others, I actually miss my own utensils and accessories. Yes, it is true, I do give these mini kitchens a complete wash down. But, considering the things I have found I will not be talked out of this practice. No, it is not the most relaxing, or enjoyable way to begin a holiday, but it puts my mind at ease.

Once pots have been scrubbed with soapy hot water, meaning old fried egg residue banished, and the rings of unidentifiable substances removed from mugs I can breathe easier. The members of our group are well aware of the fact that from this juncture forward if they come across any gunk left over on the silverware, or other reminders of past holiday makers they are not to let me know about it.

Well, I breathe easier, but then annoyance arrives when it is time to actually prepare a meal for the family. It is at this point that I reach for the cutlery. Sure, you guys know this drill. At home I would have appropriately sharpened knives for different purposes, but in those “make due” rentals you should be happy if there is more than one knife. All too often, there will be a large knife dull as a river rock is smooth to hack at your vegetables, poultry and baked goods.

Now, I know this is making me sound like a kitchen diva, but come on, you know this is all true. Some people might be better at taking it in stride than I am, but we all notice these things. And because the supplies in these facilities are so diminished, I have even thought that it might be a ploy by my spouse to make me more appreciative of all that we are fortunate enough to have.

Whether I am giving him too much credit or not, I can’t be certain. But what I do know for sure is that I praise my saucepans and my butcher’s block when we return home. Frankly, even my overgrown collection of Tupperware makes me smile. And then and there I promise never to take any of it for granted again.

This type of pairing makes the look more approachable, and less dressy. As people’s inclination to steer away from getting really dressed up, this will give you a comfort level in that you will not show up anywhere too dressed up. And yet, you will definitely be appropriate in any fancy schmancy setting too. If you find that you need to take it down one notch further, put a fitted blazer on top.

As for footwear, if you are going all out, for a bombshell look then a sky high patent heel will do the trick. But, if you are searching for a more refined lady style a kitten heel with a bow on top to sweeten things up makes good fashion sense.

Having said that, if you are searching for a holiday to take in November, then look into Umbria. It is one of Italy’s most beautiful regions, and it is nothing less than bewitching this time of year. As you will undoubtedly indulge in the famous olives of the region, whether it be in their basic form, in traditional dishes, or the oil, why not see the actual harvest take place.

In fact, you can even get your hands dirty, and join in the collection of them. Organise this prior to your arrival, to ensure your place in the activity. You will be welcome, and novel indeed. But remember this is a business, so act accordingly.

Just think how much more delicious your meals will be after you have learned first hand all about how they came to your table. Surely, you will be an expert on olives in no time, and certainly will have stories to tell of your experience both in the harvest, and in the eating.
